Another Big Game has come and gone, along with a slew of high-price tag ads that leave us questioning “was it worth it?” for brands to spend that much on a single spot? The DBC team was tuned in regardless, and eager to share their favorite – or least favorite – ads from this year and why.
Hair metal fan here so I LOVED the “Living on A Prayer” State Farm commercial in the first quarter. Also the Dunkin TV show nostalgia commercial right before half time was fantastic. My least favorite was Manscaped. Memorable but repulsive. Coinbase also seemed like a waste of money…
I loved Meal Diamond because I love that type of comedy (I still watch the Totino’s Pizza Rolls commercial from last year regularly). The Levi’s butts in jeans commercial was weird to me in real-time, but I have way too many pairs of Levi’s so now I think it actually made sense.
If you know me, you know I have an unhealthy obsession with Nerds Gummy Clusters – no matter how much they hurt my stomach. So by default I was happy to see the brand take a fun spot with Andy Cohen. That being said, it was a C-rated ad at best. I think the one that got the biggest ironic LOL from me was Claude’s “Can I get a six pack quickly?” poking fun at ChatGPT introducing ads. The one that got the biggest WTF from me was Manscaped’s “Hair Ballad” – did not go well with my wings and nachos.
The Sabrina Carpenter Pringles ad was my favorite. It was goofy and drew the biggest laugh at my Super Bowl party.
I don’t even drink soda, but the Pepsi commercial was my favorite. I thought it was clever and the Coldplay Kiss Cam reference made me laugh.
Honestly, my favorite was Coinbase. It drew attention and it was different and fun – much like their QR code ad. But did I love that it was Coinbase? No.
